About The Role
We are recruiting for a Technical Development Manager to join our expanding IT department. As a key manager you will be responsible for the delivery of new projects, additional features and required maintenance across allocated development teams.
The teams develop bespoke products that deliver key business functionality within Wren, using established processes and cutting-edge technology.

The Technical Development Manager leads Developers, Business Analysts, UX Designers and Test Analysts, in delivering systems change to the business. The Technical Development Manager owns the Technology Roadmap, business relationships and is responsible for delivering fit-for purpose applications.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Scoping & Planning
    • Fully understand the business processes that the developed applications manage and facilitate
    • Oversee estimation of Tasks, ensuring consistency across teams
  • Workflow / Lifecycle
    • Show thorough knowledge and ownership of development lifecycle, key milestones (sign-off etc) and quality gates
    • Improve efficiencies, oversee and drive delivery of multiple development project streams
  • Technology & Architecture
    • Understand systems architecture and concepts
    • Possess a strong understanding of the relevant applications and features, including problem areas and business impact of proposed changes and designs
  • Deployments
    • Participate in deployment planning with key stakeholders
    • Ensure deployments are scheduled, executed and communicated as agreed
  • Line Management & Administration
    • Undertake and understand the performance management and disciplinary procedures 
    • Carry out reviews and appraisals to a high and appropriate level  
  • Recruitment
    • Responsible for recruitment within allocated development teams

About You
Desired skills and knowledge:
  • At least 5 years experience in web application development, leveraging JavaScript technologies
  • At least 5 years experience in managing JavaScript/TypeScript based applications
  • Thorough knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, ReactJS, and associated libraries, and good awareness of the strengths and limitations of each of them
  • Strong knowledge of HTML5 and Canvas
  • Solid mathematical (e.g. understanding of vectors) and algorithm ability
  • Experience in developing with RESTful APIs
  • Understanding of OOP and design patterns
  • Experience in Continuous Integration platforms and streamlining deployments
  • Held a similar role in a large IT Development team
  • Experience of IT project delivery through agile methodologies
  • Experience of leading bespoke web-based project delivery
  • Line Management experience
  • Roadmap creation, progress, reporting
  • Knowledge of NodeJS and Less
  • Knowledge of AWS and its products
  • Experience of retail and/or manufacturing environments and processes
  • Excellent communication skills – must be able to describe technical issues to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to work as part of an Agile team
  • Has previously worked for a retailer and knows retail processes
