About The Role
Critical purpose of role:
  • Support, manage and maintain all elements of Wren and affiliated companies Windows Server Estate.
  • Ensure all servers and associated services are running effectively whilst liaising with event, incident and problem management functions to achieve SLA’s and service ambitions.
  • Provide and contribute performance and capacity data when necessary and to provide input to service design, transition and service improvement.
Main responsibilities:
  • Maintain knowledge of how systems are related and ensuring that dependencies are understood and managed accordingly.
  • Ensure that the Server estate is optimally configured and effectively managed given the organisation’s architecture, available skills and tools.
  • Assist in the delivery of consistent and reliable performance of the infrastructure to deliver the required level of service to the business and partners whilst feeding into Monitoring and Event Management.
  • Operate system support: support and maintenance of the appropriate operating system(s) and related utility software (e.g. failover software) including patch management and involvement in backups, restore policies and procedures.
  • System security: Control and maintenance of the access controls and permissions within the relevant server environment(s) as well as appropriate system and physical security measures. These include identification and application of security patches and Access Management.
  • Experience of virtualization technologies and utilisation
  • Assist in standard builds for servers as part of Service Design.
  • Build and install new servers as part of on-going maintenance or for the provision of new services.
  • Set up and manage clusters, which are aimed at building redundancy, improving service performance and making the infrastructure easier to manage.
  • Decommission and disposal of old equipment in line with the organisation’s environmental and security policies.
  • Assist incident and problem management functions in root cause determination of issues and input on creating preventative processes and reoccurrences.
  • Active participation in BCP/DR activities and testing, provide input in to these processes.
  • Deliver of technical solutions and projects via project methodologies.
About You
Desired Skills & Knowledge:

Essential:

  • Ability to demonstrate practical experience in administration of current Windows Server Operating Systems
  • A good to excellent understanding of using and administering Active Directory
  • Understanding of OS security hardening concepts and best practices
  • PowerShell scripting in both Active Directory and Office365
  • Office365 administration and maintenance experience
  • Robust understanding of standard network services including TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP and DNS
  • An understanding of IT service delivery
  • Good communication/ customer skills
  • Ability to assess problems and research solutions
  • Tenacity to go that extra mile to understand and resolve a problem
Desirable:
  • VMware vSphere products experience
  • ITIL experience or awareness
  • Any amount of Linux experience
  • Awareness or experience of orchestration and deployment technologies
  • An understanding of the retail or IT support industries
